Through the office of Asian Pacific Islander American Affairs, I conducted a research project in regards to common APIA issues. Some of the topics that were covered were in regards to gender issues both on the female and male aspects. The office also conducted research in regards to the Model Minority, and how it has been a major issue in the development of the APIA experience. It also expands on the racial triangle and how its connected to the concept of the model minority. Also within the research poster there is data in regards to population grown and ethnic group of various groups that identify as APIA nationally. Within the poster there is also a section in relation to our year long initiative debunking the concept that Asian Americans are silent, but rather they are silenced by the other communities around them. Each ambassador within the department showcased a word/experienced that has caused them to be silenced by their surroundings. As we explored each persons experience, we got to dig deeper into what it means to be apia, and how the stereotypes that are placed upon us has shaped our development.
